Potty Training Update...

It went good today. We started out this morning taking him out of his night time diaper and putting him in his Elmo undies. I told him that if he needs to go tee tee to tell mommy and we'd go sit on the potty. I kept watching him to make sure he wasn't going in his undies. A little while later he had a funny little look on his face as he stood on the fireplace hearth. I looked down and he was standing in a puddle. I said, "Uh oh, we tee teed in our big boy pants, let's go in to the Elmo potty". We did the whole routine of sitting on the pot and of course by then he was already finished. He did like flushing the toilet 5 times though. On with the new undies and he threw the dirty one's in the laundry. I repeated myself again, "If you need to go tee tee tell mommy and we'll go to the potty". A little later he was sitting at the breakfast nook and he said, "Uh oh, tee tee". It was running down the wall and into a puddle onto the floor. Back to the potty again and the whole routine....undies in laundry...fresh pair on...."if you need to go tee tee tell mommy..." Then it was naptime. He tee teed while sleeping....we changed when he got up. Lunch time comes and as he was sitting in his highchair eating lunch I noticed the puddle just as he said, "Uh oh, tee tee". Around 7pm I put him in a diaper after his bath...We'll try again tomorrow. I thought that was pretty good for day 1 of potty training, he is recognizing when he's wet. If anyone has any other hints to successful training I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for listening to our potty stories....hopefully one day he'll be a flushing success....pun intended! That's it for tonight.

Here are my two cents...

Peeing in a diaper is a habit that has taken 2 years to master. Peeing in a potty is foreign and not an established habit. How do you change the habit?

My suggestion is to take him to the potty about every 30 mins. to try to go for about a week (unless he catches on sooner). It is alot of work for mom at first, but in the end it is rewarding!

One more bit of advice. Don't get frustrated. Most boys aren't even ready to be potty trained until they are 2 1/2 and some aren't even ready until closer to 3. It all depends on maturity of bladder control, having older siblings to watch or whether or not they really want to do it.

Good luck, and happy pottying!!!

Here's a good suggestion: Since Sharon has 2 boys & Noah is definitely potty trained, Drop off Luke at Sharon's house for a week. Sharon can potty train both Camden and Luke at the same time! LOL! Can you imagine the mess Sharon's house? Brian will probably have to move in with you guys for the week, but both boys would be potty trained in the end!

I have tons of potty stories to tell. We are training Morgan right now. She is totally out of diapers and she still has accidents from time to time. We tried to start potty training with Morgan when she was two, but it just wasn't time. About three weeks ago we took the pull ups off and we took her to the potty about every hour. Now we can ask her and we know the signs. There are signs when they need to do the #2 thing. Stickers are good and toys for bribes work too. My son was so different with his potty training. He was much easier. Yep you heard it. Boys are easier. Well, I think it was more because my son wasn't so stubborn. My daughter is so stubborn and likes to put up a fight from time to time. He always ran to the bathroom when he had to tee tee and did really well. Neither of my kids liked the whole "little" potty thing. So, we got the thing that goes on top of the potty and got a stool for them to get on the big potty. The thing I remember with my son is teaching him to aim. He sat down for a long time until Daddy taught him to Aim. So, cute.
